Artemisia ~ Where Boutique Meets Art Gallery

"Artemisia is a unique retail boutique and art gallery, where the majority of the clothing and jewelry lines are produced by small independent artisans in the United States. The home accessories are designed and produced by artisans all over the world."

Sarah Graves ~ Owner of Artemisia

How long have you been doing business in town?

We have been in Geneva since 2009.

What attracted you to the line of work you’re in, and how did you get started?

I was attracted to this line of work because it gives me great purpose! It sounds cliché, but I LOVE fashion and I LOVE home décor.

If you had to sum up your business mission to a stranger, what would it be?

To source and provide unique artisan goods to the consumer.

What’s the biggest challenge or most difficult moment you’ve faced in your business?

The most challenging part of owning and running this business is sourcing and buying unique artisan brands for 8 product categories (clothing, jewelry, handbags, footwear, home accents, lighting, furniture, original artwork), and finding time for a personal life.

What’s the most satisfying part of your business?

When a customer loves us so much that they come back over and over again.

How would you say your business or organization distinguishes itself from the others?

Artemisia distinguishes itself from other small retailers in that we are a lifestyle boutique. By that, I mean a person can literally outfit their body and their home all from one space. Our product lines are that vast. The other cool thing is that I try, as the primary buyer, to source from artisans who try and help others. Whether they give a portion of their sales to a cause they are passionate about, or they employ groups of disadvantaged peoples in other fair trade countries to help make their goods, it means a lot to me to be able to support those artisans.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given when it comes to success?

Offer exceptional customer service. And, turn, turn, turn, your inventory!

Are there any new projects or endeavors you’re working on that you’re extra excited about? If so, what details can you share and what makes it so exciting?

Our newest endeavor is our e-commerce store, and joining Spots On The FOX. We want to share our wonderful brands with those who can not shop our brick and mortar location. The exciting part lies in the potential for sales growth.
